I enjoyed the Ruby Brooch & Sapphire Brooch books much more than this one, which felt a little sloppy to me. The plot was entertaining enough, and Logan's imagination with the MacKlenna family tree is admirable - I enjoy how she interweaves her cast of characters.But her writing style was slightly irritating: every analogy was so extreme (which made them less effective and believable as the story wound on); there were grammatical errors; and characters' physical descriptions changed from page to page. (Example: Zoey's eye color was steel-blue, then suddenly mink-brown. Minor issues, but the author's lack of attention to detail annoyed me.)More than that, I just couldn't get behind the Kenzie character. She's supposed to be this hysterical comedian, but I didn't find her jokes funny, even though everyone she meets on the page thinks she's the funniest person they've ever met. I love jokes, but hers were all groaners.Another reviewer said that she felt Logan did a rush job to meet a deadline. Unfortunately, I had the same impression, even though I'm a fan of her earlier books. I'll still give the Broken Brooch & Diamond Brooch a chance, but I was disappointed in this rendition.
